Lynn Rogers is a fine art watercolor and pastel artist, who had an opening reception Friday night at the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts. Her work has been seen in many juried shows in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey.

She was raised in a family of artists and has been painting for almost 30 years. “Watercolor is my joy because it’s a very fickle medium. It can either be gracious to you or evil. But, whatever happens, you can still work with it and enjoy it.”

Rogers also loves Plein Air painting, which is painting outside. “I didn’t have the opportunity to take fine arts classes, but I was exposed to so much through my family.”

Before Rogers retired to work on art full time, she was a Pediatric RN. “With that, I had the opportunity to use art therapy with my patients and always found that it allayed a lot of their fears before surgery or with the dynamics that they may have had at home,” she said.

“The joy of painting built self-esteem with many of my patients, and that kept me going.”

After she retired, she was in New Jersey for a while but moved to Deerfield. “I got there and wondered, what am I going to do?”

“There’s not too much going on in Deerfield on the hill in the winter with four or five feet of snow, but luckily I learned about the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts and came here,” she stated.

Rogers met a wonderful teacher there who was into pastels and watercolors and she took classes from her, got better and better, and all of the hard work ended up with the show that is now on the walls at the Center.
