Bios
Haida Earley grew up
in Port Angeles, WA. She attended Washington State University where she received a
Bachelor of Music in Music Education and flute performance. Continuing with her education,
she attended Western Michigan University where she had the opportunity to study with
Christine Smith. While studying at WMU, Haida was a national finalist in the Music
Teachers National Association, Solo Woodwind division.
As a
performer she has had the opportunity to perform at the prestigious Julius Baker Master
classes and the Orchestral Flute Institute in Detroit. Haida has performed with the
Washington Idaho Symphony, Battle Creek Symphony, Southwest Michigan Symphony, and the
Utica Symphony. Additionally, in 2003 she had the opportunity to perform in Brazil with a
number of ensembles including a woodwind quintet and a wind ensemble. Currently, she
teaches music in the Utica Public Schools at Kernan Elementary and Donovan Middle School.
A versatile performer in many genres of music, Chris
Earley has spent the last several years working
as a freelance musician and educator throughout the Midwest, Northwest and now the
Northeast United States.
As a classical percussionist, he has performed in a number of
capacities including the Washington Idaho Symphony, a variety of percussion ensembles, and
as a featured marimba soloist at the Northwest Percussion Festival. Recently, Earley was a
featured member of groups performing throughout Brazil and at the International
Association of Jazz Educators Convention in Toronto, Canada.
Outside of the classical sphere, Chris is an active jazz musician
having performed with many jazz greats including the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Eliane Elias,
Bob Mintzer, John Abercrombie, and many others. He can also be heard on a number of
recordings, which include Jamie Shew's, The Answers are You and a soon to be
released recording with the Holland/Dobbins Big Band.
In addition to his performing, Chris is an active educator and is
currently the Instructor of Music at Herkimer County Community College. He has won
numerous awards for his playing including the award for Outstanding Drumset Soloist at the
Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and Outstanding Drummer with a Big Band at the Notre Dame
Jazz Festival. Earley holds degrees from Washington State University and Western Michigan
University in Percussion Performance and Jazz Performance.
